Lead Accountant

Description
- Our client is seeking a competent, detail-oriented Lead Accountant to join its team.
- The ideal candidate would be responsible for overseeing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and driving compliance with regulatory standards.
- The ideal candidate will provide leadership to the accounting team, manage financial processes, and support strategic decision-making through insightful financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate financial statements and management reports.
- Supervise and review general ledger activities to ensure all transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
- Lead loan accounting processes, including loan disbursements, repayments, interest recognition, and portfolio tracking.
- Conduct periodic financial audits and ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of statutory and regulatory reports, including VAT, SCUML, and other compliance requirements.
- Monitor and reconcile income, customer repayments, and accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Review statements of accounts and investigate discrepancies or exceptions.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis to support financial planning.
- Track portfolio performance and provide insights on financial risks and opportunities.
- Coordinate internal reporting, includingweekly and monthly activity reports.
- Provide guidance, supervision, and mentoring to junior accounting staff.
- Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders as required.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
- 4–6 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in financial services.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with loan accounting and portfolio management is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
Salary
N250,000 - N350,000 per month.
