Description
- Our Client, a CBN-licensed International Money Transfer Operator (IMTO) looking for an Accountant to manage cross-border remittance settlements, foreign exchange (FX) gain/loss computations, Nostro/Vostro reconciliations, and strict regulatory reporting mandated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other regulatory bodies.
What You Will Be Doing
- Perform daily end-of-day reconciliations of foreign currency inflows received via global remittance partners against Naira payouts executed through domestic Authorised Dealer Banks (ADBs) and clearing networks.
- Monitor and reconcile Nostro/Vostro accounts, settlement bank accounts, and merchant wallets across multiple currencies (USD, GBP, EUR, NGN).
- Identify, track, and resolve settlement breaks, uncredited transactions, failed payouts, and transaction reversals.
- Reconcile partner operator fees, bank charges, and intermediary transfer fees.
- Account for FX transactions based on prevailing Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM) benchmark rates.
- Execute journal entries for daily FX gains/losses, position revaluations, and realized margins across inbound foreign currency flows.
- Monitor liquidity levels across bank settlement accounts to ensure availability of Naira funds for local beneficiary payouts.
- Manage FX sales executed via the CBN window or Authorised Dealer Banks under CBN liquidity framework directives.
- Prepare and submit mandatory daily, weekly, and monthly regulatory returns to the CBN Trade and Exchange Department detailing remittance volumes, sources of foreign exchange, and payout metrics.
- Collaborate with the Compliance Unit to log and report high-value or suspicious financial transactions in line with CBN AML/CFT/CPF guidelines and NFIU requirements.
- Ensure strict adherence to the CBN minimum share capital requirements and license maintenance standards for IMTOs.
- Compute and file all applicable Nigerian statutory taxes, including Withholding Tax (WHT), Value Added Tax (VAT), and Company Income Tax (CIT) with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
- Manage monthly state payroll tax deductions (PAYE), pension remittances, and statutory levies (e.g., NSITF, ITF) with relevant State Internal Revenue Services (e.g., LIRS).
- Prepare monthly management accounts, balance sheet substantiations, and income statements in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local standards.
- Prepare comprehensive audit schedules and serve as the primary finance contact for internal and external auditors during annual audits or CBN regulatory examinations.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, prepayments, operating expenses, and general ledger accounts.
What We Are Looking For
- Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience within a licensed IMTO, Payment Service Bank (PSB), Commercial Bank, Switching/Processing Fintech, or FX Brokerage in Nigeria
- ACA (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria - ICAN) or ACCA qualification is mandatory or strongly preferred
- In-depth knowledge of CBN foreign exchange guidelines, cross-border payment rails (SWIFT, ACH, NIBSS Instant Payment - NIP), and ADB clearing mechanisms.
- Sound understanding of Nigerian tax laws (Finance Acts, FIRS rules) and CBN Trade & Exchange circulars.
- Ability to evaluate FX yield spreads, corridor profitability, and liquidity buffers.
- High ethical standards when handling foreign currency and regulatory disclosures.
- Numerical Precision - Keen eye for detail to track fraction-of-a-cent and Kobo-level variances across high-volume transactions
- High emotional intelligence — you manage upwards, sideways, and downwards with equal skill
- Familiarity with the Nigerian financial services and CBN operating environment is desirable.
Salary Range
N300,000 - N400,000 monthly (Depending on experience).
