Civil Engineer (QA / QC)

Job Summary
- The QA/QC Engineer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems across all phases of the expressway construction project.
- The successful candidate will ensure that materials, workmanship, testing, inspections, and completed works meet project specifications, applicable standards, and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the project's Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures.
- Ensure compliance with contract specifications, approved drawings, method statements, and relevant engineering standards.
- Conduct inspections of construction works including earthworks, pavement, bridges, drainage systems, concrete works, asphalt works, and ancillary infrastructure.
- Coordinate laboratory and field testing of construction materials including soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel, and other materials.
- Review inspection and test plans (ITPs), quality procedures, and method statements submitted by contractors and subcontractors.
- Prepare, monitor, and maintain quality documentation, inspection records, material approvals, test reports, and quality logs.
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where necessary and monitor corrective and preventive actions until closure.
- Verify that approved materials and construction methods are used throughout the project.
- Monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with approved quality standards.
- Participate in project quality audits and site inspections.
- Liaise with consultants, contractors, laboratories, and regulatory authorities on quality-related matters.
- Monitor calibration of testing and measuring equipment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project quality performance.
- Prepare periodic QA/QC reports for project management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional registration with COREN is an added advantage.
- Membership of NSE or other relevant professional bodies is desirable.
- Certification in Quality Management (ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor) will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in Quality Assurance and Quality Control within road, highway, bridge, or large civil infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience in highway construction, pavement works, concrete works, asphalt production, and materials testing.
- Experience working on Federal Government or concession infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of FIDIC contracts and engineering quality standards.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of QA/QC systems and quality management principles.
- Excellent understanding of road construction specifications and testing standards.
- Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, BS, and Nigerian engineering standards.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering documentation software.
