Job Summary
- The Senior Financial Control & Treasury Officer is responsible for supporting the effective management of the Bank's treasury operations, financial controls, regulatory reporting, management reporting, and financial planning activities.
- The role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, and maintenance of sound treasury and liquidity management practices.
- The incumbent will play a critical role in preparing financial reports, monitoring regulatory compliance, managing reconciliations, supporting treasury operations, and providing analytical insights that support informed decision-making by Management and the Board.
Key Responsibilities
Treasury Management & Liquidity Monitoring:
- Support the daily management of the Bank's liquidity position and funding requirements.
- Monitor cash flow positions and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly liquidity reports.
- Assist in managing treasury investments and placements in line with approved investment policies.
- Monitor maturity profiles of investments and liabilities to ensure adequate liquidity.
- Support the execution and monitoring of treasury transactions and funding activities.
- Maintain schedules of investment placements, maturities, and returns.
- Assist in Asset and Liability Management Committee (ALCO) activities and reporting.
Management Reporting:
- Prepare and present weekly Management Reports highlighting key financial and treasury performance indicators.
- Prepare Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO) reports and supporting schedules.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and performance reports for Executive Management.
- Support the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Financial Control & Accounting Operations:
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and schedules.
- Review general ledger balances and ensure proper classification of financial transactions.
- Monitor accounting entries, accruals, provisions, and adjustments.
- Conduct periodic reviews of financial records to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
Regulatory Reporting & Compliance:
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual returns to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), and other regulatory bodies.
- Ensure regulatory reports are accurate, complete, and submitted within prescribed timelines.
- Monitor compliance with prudential guidelines and statutory reporting requirements.
- Stay abreast of regulatory developments and advise Management on implications.
- Support the implementation of regulatory directives affecting finance and treasury operations.
Bank Reconciliation & Financial Integrity:
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation of bank statements and internal accounts.
- Investigate and resolve outstanding reconciliation items promptly.
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of settlement accounts, suspense accounts, and interbank transactions.
- Maintain schedules of outstanding items and ensure timely resolution.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning:
- Support the annual budgeting process and periodic financial forecasting exercises.
- Prepare budget performance reports and variance analyses.
- Analyze financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Provide recommendations to improve financial efficiency and cost management.
- Assist in developing financial models to support business planning and decision-making.
Data Analysis & Financial Modelling:
- Conduct financial analysis and prepare management dashboards.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support business growth and profitability analysis.
- Analyze trends in revenue, expenses, liquidity, and profitability.
- Provide actionable insights to support strategic initiatives and resource allocation.
Audit & Regulatory Examination Coordination:
- Coordinate responses to requests from external auditors, internal auditors, CBN, NDIC, and other regulatory authorities.
- Prepare schedules, reports, and supporting documentation required during examinations and audits.
- Track audit observations and support timely resolution of audit findings.
- Liaise with regulators and auditors on finance and treasury-related matters.
Internal Control & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with established financial control policies and procedures.
- Support the implementation of internal controls to safeguard the Bank's assets.
- Identify financial and operational control weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
- Support risk management initiatives relating to treasury, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with Operations, Credit, Risk, Internal Audit, Compliance, and Technology teams to ensure effective financial management.
- Provide financial information and analysis to Management as required.
- Support Board and Management reporting requirements through accurate and timely information delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Banking, or a related discipline.
- Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent is mandatory.
- 5–7 years relevant experience in Finance, Treasury, Financial Control, Regulatory Reporting, or Banking Operations within a bank, microfinance bank, fintech, or other regulated financial institution.
- Strong understanding of CBN and NDIC regulatory frameworks and reporting requirements.
- Experience in financial reporting, treasury operations, reconciliations, and regulatory examinations.
- Sound knowledge of IFRS and applicable accounting standards.
