Procurement Officer

Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Procurement Officer to manage local and international sourcing activities, supplier relationships, procurement planning, and import/export documentation.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong analytical, negotiation, and financial management skills, with hands-on experience in procurement operations within a manufacturing, logistics, trading, or supply chain environment.
  • This role requires a professional who can drive cost-effective purchasing decisions, ensure regulatory compliance, manage supplier performance, and support seamless procurement processes that align with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Supplier Management:

  • Source and procure goods, raw materials, equipment, and services from local and international suppliers.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable suppliers based on quality, pricing, delivery performance, and compliance standards.
  • Obtain quotations, conduct supplier comparisons, and recommend cost-effective procurement solutions.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve optimal value.
  • Develop and maintain a robust supplier database and strategic supplier relationships.

Import & Export Coordination

  • Coordinate procurement activities related to import and export transactions.
  • Prepare and process import/export documentation, including:
  • Proforma Invoices
  • Commercial Invoices
  • Packing Lists
  • Bills of Lading
  • Certificates of Origin
  • Form M Documentation
  • SONCAP and related certifications
  • Liaise with freight forwarders, customs agents, shipping companies, and regulatory agencies to facilitate timely cargo clearance.
  • Monitor shipment schedules and ensure prompt delivery of goods.

Financial & Cost Management:

  • Prepare procurement budgets, forecasts, and expenditure reports.
  • Analyze procurement costs, exchange rate fluctuations, freight charges, duties, and taxes.
  • Monitor supplier invoices and collaborate with the Finance team for payment processing.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive procurement efficiency initiatives.
  • Prepare procurement savings and cost-analysis reports for management review.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with requirements of:
  • Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)
  • Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)
  • Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)
  • Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC)
  • Other relevant regulatory agencies
  • Monitor supplier compliance with contractual agreements and quality standards.
  • Identify procurement risks and implement mitigation measures.

Inventory & Reporting:

  • Collaborate with warehouse and logistics teams to maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Monitor stock requirements and initiate timely procurement actions.
  • Track supplier performance and delivery timelines.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier documentation.
  • Prepare monthly procurement reports and support internal and external audits.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Procurement & Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in procurement, preferably within manufacturing, logistics, import/export, trading, or supply chain environments.
  • Proven experience in international sourcing, supplier management, and procurement operations.

Professional Certifications (Advantageous):

  • Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)
  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of procurement and international trade processes.
  • Sound understanding of import/export documentation and customs procedures.
  • Financial analysis, budgeting, and cost-control expertise.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/Procurement Management Systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Salary

N200,000 Gross Monthly.
