About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payables Officer to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing company payments, interfacing with banks, preparing payment instructions, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and maintaining accurate financial records.
Key Responsibilities
* Process and manage vendor, supplier, and statutory payments accurately and promptly.
* Prepare and issue payment instructions in line with company policies and approval processes.
* Interface with banks on payment processing, account reconciliations, and banking transactions.
* Monitor cash flow requirements and payment schedules.
* Ensure timely remittance of taxes and statutory deductions, including PAYE, WHT, VAT, Pension, and other regulatory obligations.
* Maintain proper documentation and records of all payment transactions.
* Reconcile bank statements and investigate discrepancies.
* Support month-end and year-end financial closing activities.
* Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders regarding payment-related matters.
* Ensure compliance with financial controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
* Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in accounts payable, treasury, or finance operations.
* Good understanding of Nigerian tax regulations, including PAYE, VAT, and Withholding Tax.
* Experience interfacing with banks and managing corporate payment processes.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
* Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
* High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
* Professional accounting certifications (ICAN, ACCA, ATS, etc.) will be an added advantage.
