Job Description

Accountant

Location: Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Accountant will be responsible for managing the Association's financial records, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, supporting budget preparation and monitoring, and maintaining sound financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records of the Association.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable.
  • Reconcile bank statements and financial transactions.
  • Preparation and monitoring of budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, pension, and other statutory obligations.
  • Process payroll and staff-related financial transactions.
  • Support internal and external audit processes.
  • Monitor cash flow and prepare financial forecasts.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and inventory records.
  • Provide financial advice and analysis to Management when required.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the General Secretary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, ICAN, ANAN, or equivalent will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization will be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with Sage50 is an added advantage

Required Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and accounting principles.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of YMCA.

Terms of Appointment:

  • This appointment is offered on a full-time contract basis.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to assume duties immediately.
