Job Summary
- The Editor is responsible for reviewing, editing, and preparing manuscripts, articles, educational materials, books, magazines, and other publications for print and digital distribution.
- The role ensures accuracy, consistency, clarity, grammatical correctness, and adherence to the publishing firm's editorial standards while working closely with writers, authors, designers, and production teams.
- Editorial responsibilities commonly include manuscript review, copy editing, proofreading, fact-checking, and coordinating publication schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Duties:
- Review manuscripts, articles, reports, and other written materials.
- Edit content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, style, and consistency.
- Ensure compliance with the company's editorial guidelines and publishing standards.
- Fact-check information, references, statistics, and citations.
- Proofread final drafts before publication.
Content Development:
- Collaborate with authors and writers to improve content quality.
- Provide constructive feedback on structure, tone, readability, and audience suitability.
- Assist in developing publication concepts and content strategies.
Publication Management:
- Coordinate manuscript submissions and review processes.
- Monitor editorial deadlines and production schedules.
- Liaise with designers, typesetters, printers, and production teams to ensure timely publication.
- Review page layouts and approve final copy before printing.
Quality Assurance:
- Maintain high editorial standards across all publications.
- Ensure consistency in formatting, language usage, and branding.
- Identify and resolve content inconsistencies and errors.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Maintain editorial records and document versions.
- Prepare editorial reports and progress updates.
- Participate in editorial meetings and planning sessions.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in: English Language, Mass Communication, Linguistics, Literature, Journalism, Publishing Studies, Communication Arts Related discipline
Experience:
- 2–5 years experience in editing, publishing, journalism, content development, or related roles.
- Experience working with books, educational materials, magazines, newspapers, or digital publications is an advantage.
Required Skills
Technical Skills:
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong copy-editing and proofreading skills.
- Knowledge of publishing processes and editorial workflows.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic knowledge of Adobe InDesign or other publishing software is an advantage.
- Research and fact-checking skills.

Working Conditions:

Salary
N200,000 - N250,000 per month.
