Accountant (Hospitality)

Reports To: Finance Manager / General Manager.
Job Summary
- The Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the business, ensuring accurate recording of transactions, cost control, compliance, and timely financial reporting.
- The role requires strong attention to detail and hands-on experience in hospitality accounting, including revenue tracking, inventory control, and expense management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting:
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports (P&L, cash flow, balance sheet)
- Maintain accurate financial records and general ledger entries
- Reconcile bank statements, POS transactions, and cash sales
- Ensure proper documentation and filing of all financial transactions.
Revenue & Sales Monitoring:
- Monitor daily sales and reconcile with POS systems and bank deposits
- Investigate discrepancies between recorded sales and actual receipts
- Track revenue across multiple streams (dine-in, takeaway, delivery, events).
Cost Control & Inventory Management:
- Monitor food and beverage costs to ensure profitability targets are met
- Conduct regular inventory audits and variance analysis
- Work closely with procurement and kitchen teams to control wastage and pilferage
- Track cost of goods sold (COGS) and recommend cost-saving measures.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Manage supplier invoices, payments, and vendor relationships
- Ensure timely payment of bills and proper expense classification
- Monitor receivables where applicable (corporate clients, events, etc.).
Budgeting & Financial Planning:
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts
- Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis
- Support management with financial insights for decision-making.
Tax & Regulatory Compliance:
- Prepare and file tax returns (VAT, WHT, PAYE) in compliance with regulations
- Ensure adherence to financial policies and internal controls
- Support internal and external audit processes.
Internal Controls & Risk Management:
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls to prevent fraud and errors
- Monitor cash handling procedures and enforce accountability
- Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
Systems & Process Improvement:
- Utilize accounting software and POS systems efficiently
- Improve financial processes for better accuracy and efficiency
- Train staff on basic financial procedures where necessary.
Key Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–5 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in hospitality
- Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA) is an added advantage.
