Assistant Accountant
Location: Ozubulu, Anambra

Main Function
- The Assistant Accountant supports the Accountant in managing the organization’s financial records, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting of financial transactions.
- The role involves assisting with bookkeeping, preparing financial reports, handling accounts payable and receivable, and maintaining proper financial documentation.
- The Assistant Accountant must be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working in a fast-paced business environment.
Role Responsibilities
Financial Record Management:
- Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Record daily financial transactions, including income, expenses, and payments.
- Ensure proper filing and documentation of all financial records.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Assist in processing invoices and payments promptly.
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Support reconciliation of vendor and customer accounts.
Financial Reporting:
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Support the preparation of profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Provide necessary financial data for management review.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
- Support the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
- Track expenses and report any variances.
- Assist in implementing cost control measures.
Bank and Cash Management:
- Assist in performing bank reconciliations.
- Support monitoring of cash flow and daily cash balances.
- Maintain petty cash records and ensure accountability.
Tax and Regulatory Compliance:
- Assist in ensuring compliance with tax regulations and statutory requirements.
- Support preparation of tax filings (VAT, PAYE, etc.).
- Maintain proper records for regulatory purposes.
Audit and Internal Control:
- Support internal and external audit processes.
- Help maintain effective internal control systems.
- Identify discrepancies and report issues to the Accountant.
Payroll Support:
- Assist in payroll preparation and processing.
- Ensure accuracy of salary calculations and deductions.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain proper financial documentation and audit trails.
- Prepare periodic financial summaries and reports.
- Track basic financial performance indicators.
Process Improvement and Efficiency:
- Support improvements in accounting processes and systems.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in financial management.
Experience / Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 1–3 years of relevant accounting experience (including internships or NYSC)
- Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is an added advantage
- Basic knowledge of financial reporting and bookkeeping
- Experience in retail, hospitality, or similar sectors is an added advantage
Competencies / Skills:
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting software
- Good analytical and numerical skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic understanding of taxation and compliance
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under supervision
