Job Summary
- The Risk Management Officer is responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating risks that may affect the operations, financial stability, and regulatory compliance of KKU Microfinance Bank.
- The role ensures the effective implementation of the bank’s risk management framework, with particular focus on credit risk, operational risk, compliance risk, and fraud prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, analyze, and evaluate potential risks affecting the bank’s operations, lending activities, and financial performance.
- Develop and maintain a risk register covering credit, operational, liquidity, compliance, and reputational risks.
- Review loan portfolios to identify potential credit risks and default trends.
- Monitor adherence to the bank’s credit policies, lending procedures, and risk limits.
- Conduct periodic risk assessments and internal control reviews across departments and branches.
- Ensure compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations and microfinance banking guidelines.
- Prepare and submit risk reports, risk dashboards, and recommendations to management.
- Support the implementation of risk mitigation strategies and internal control improvements.
- Investigate cases of operational losses, fraud, or policy violations and recommend corrective actions.
- Promote risk awareness and risk management culture across the bank.
- Work closely with Internal Audit, Compliance, Credit, and Operations teams to strengthen risk management practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 – 5 years relevant experience, preferably in microfinance banking, financial institutions, or audit/risk roles.
- Professional certifications such as Risk Management Certification (CRM), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), FRM, or ACCA will be an added advantage.
- Good knowledge of microfinance operations and regulatory requirements.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Strong risk analysis and analytical skills
- Knowledge of credit risk assessment in microfinance lending
- Excellent report writing and documentation skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Good understanding of internal controls and compliance requirements
- Integrity, confidentiality, and sound professional judgment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.
