Senior Legal Officer
Location: Ajah, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Key Responsibilities
Provide sound legal advice to management on real estate, corporate, and commercial matters.
Conduct thorough due diligence on land and property acquisitions, including title searches, verification, and perfection of titles.
Draft, review, negotiate, and manage legal documents such as contracts, deeds, agreements, MOUs, and other transactional documents.
Oversee land documentation processes, registrations, and liaise with government agencies (Land Registry, Ministries, etc.).
Ensure company-wide compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
Handle litigation matters, disputes, and alternative dispute resolution processes; coordinate with external solicitors when required.
Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect the company’s interests.
Support internal departments (Sales, Operations, HR, Finance) with legal guidance and documentation.
Maintain accurate legal records, files, and contract databases.
Supervise and guide junior legal officers and interns within the department.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) and Call to the Nigerian Bar (BL).
Minimum of 5–8 years post-call experience, preferably in real estate, property law, or corporate/commercial practice.
Strong working knowledge of Nigerian property law, land use regulations, and corporate compliance.
Proven experience in handling land documentation, contracts, and litigation.
Prior experience in a real estate company or property development firm is an added advantage.
