Job Description

Facility Officer 

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Employment Type: Full-time

Educational Qualification

  • Minimum of an OND / HND / B.Sc Degree in Facilities Management, Estate Management, Engineering, Building Technology, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • Relevant technical or professional certification will be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • 2–3 years’ experience in facility management, preferably in a school, office, residential estate, hospital, or similar environment.
  • Experience supervising artisans, cleaners, security personnel, maintenance contractors, and other service providers is an advantage.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify faults, defects, hazards, and maintenance needs before they become major problems.
  • Strong ability to conduct routine inspection of school facilities and equipment.
  • Good knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Ability to monitor the condition of classrooms, offices, toilets, plumbing, electrical systems, furniture, doors, windows, playgrounds, school buses, generators, water systems, and other facilities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, inventories, and work schedules.
  • Good supervisory and coordination skills.
  • Ability to identify urgent maintenance issues and prioritise them appropriately.
  • Ability to follow up contractors and artisans to ensure work is completed properly and to standard.
  • Good understanding of health, safety, sanitation, and environmental standards.
  • Ability to inspect completed work and identify poor-quality or unfinished jobs.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and accountability, particularly when handling maintenance materials, purchases, contractors, and school property.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond promptly to emergencies.

A particularly important requirement:

  • The ideal candidate must be highly observant and detail-oriented, with the ability to identify minor defects, safety concerns, maintenance needs, and potential facility problems before they escalate into major issues.
